Welcome

***Covid-19 Update***

Unfortunately we are unable to run our live classes at the moment due to the current lockdown. However, especially at the moment in this time of anxiety and worry, not to mention lung health concerns, it is SUCH an important time to keep singing!

So we are making Homeschool Singing videos where you can learn a song with your children and sing together as a family.

Our evening community choir, Night Chorus, is resuming! Monday evenings 8:00-9:30pm at Balham Scout Hall or outside when weather permits.

Welcome to Pram Chorus - the parents’ choir

Pram Chorus was born in 2012, when Musical Director/new-mum, Ruth Routledge, decided to combine her two main roles in life. She started a choir for parents in Balham, South London, UK, where parents could bring along their babies/toddlers. The focus is very much on the parents as Ruth experienced herself, that there was a lack of supportive and child-friendly activities for new parents. Over time Pram Chorus has expanded to run more fun, friendly, non-auditioned community choirs in Streatham, Brixton, Beckenham, Tooting and Balham, London and further afield in Sheffield, UK.

Pram Chorus is more than a choir - it's a community, where everyone is welcomed and supported in a non-judgemental way. The experience of becoming a parent can be a lonely one as you are thrust into a brave new world of sleepless nights and being at the mercy of a tiny one's needs, so having a friendly, non-judgemental place to go, where you don't even have to make small talk, can be a lifesaver.

Feeling low and struggling with the demands of parenting?

You are not alone! Some estimates suggest that as many as 1 in 4 women experience postnatal depression and there is a whole large grey area of feeling low, down and anxious. Group singing has been demonstrated to be faster in reducing symptoms of postnatal depression than other treatments. Not only does it give you a community of like-minded people going through similar difficulties. The act of singing itself boosts your mood, releases dopamine, the “happy hormone” which helps reduce cortisol, the “stress hormone”.
